Hello!

Hello!

Scarf from mill ends

Welcome to Crochet Maven!

My name is Daphne and I crochet – a lot. In 2017, I made (and gave away) 12 afghans, 31 scarves, 17 baby hats and was commissioned to make 2 baby dresses. Crocheting is relaxing for me and also allows me to be productive.

I don’t always plan specific projects, I just have categories of items and their general recipients. A group at my church gives baskets to women in a shelter each year so I also make an afghan to go with each one. They also receive a scarf because the organization I was making scarves for reached their quota. Some scarves are made for a specific organization which has requirements such as color family, approximate size and should be unisex. Other scarves are just made and given to local organizations or individuals in need because in Chicago it gets very cold.

A couple of friends told me about organizations seeking baby hats and suggested that I make them. Why not? Baby hats are quick and easy. Some organizations, while worthy charities aren’t my thing. I am more passionate about people projects, specifically the homeless and people in need, so I haven’t made any items for animals. This isn’t to say that I won’t, but there are enough crafters to make things for many organizations. When an organization makes a need public, often they are flooded with items. Some smaller non-profits don’t put out the call, so they may still have need of items. My feeling is that you should find what you like to do and meet that need.

Thank you for stopping by and let’s keep talking about crochet (and knitting), yarn and giving things away.
